This is what stated in Norah Md Noor (2012); Andragogy is an instructional approach based on self-directed learning theory while Pedagogy is a traditional instructional approach based on teacher-directed learning theory (Knowles, 1980). The pedagogical model and andragogical model differ in six assumptions about learners which are the learner’s need to know, self-concept, experience, readiness to learn, orientation to learning, and motivation (Knowles et al. 1998). From this understanding, the project experimenting with Cybergogy, where this approach let people learn by facilitating and technologically enabling learner-centered autonomous and collaborative learning in a virtual environment. However, instead of learning in virtual environment, this project proceeded with Augmented Reality approach.

To understand the effect of implementing AR in undergraduate students and awareness of young teenagers towards their health, this project initially create an AR applications for medical undergraduate students and an AR board game. The AR application for medical students designed and developed by a final year project student with guidance from the medical lecturers, and the AR board game is designed and created by intern students with the help from medical practitioner. We exhibited these two product in K-novasi 2018.

For those who want to explore of using Augmented Reality (AR) as a tools in their teaching approach please do initially read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Augmented_reality, and further study Unity for mobile AR  latest version (https://unity3d.com/solutions/mobile-ar)

Good luck with your new job

Good luck with your new job Adli, You have work with me since your final year project. You created a basic platform for TRGS research grant project as a preliminary product. Later you continue as CASD intern. Thank you for your interest and commitment, not just for your final year project but also for Dewan Bahasa collaboration work and Exergame AR project. Good luck with your new job. If you change your mind and thinking to further your study, the doors are always open for you.

3-D Reconstruction of Coronary Arteries from multiple different Angiographic views

To do this kind of research work, student need to understand the background of angiography.  Can be seen here, external co-supervisor the cardiologist expert, explaining the artery tree to Mr Mahmod so that he can understand on how to interpret angiography images from different view.
Paper Abstract:
Three dimensional reconstruction of the coronary artery vessel of the X-Ray angiography image is one of the  useful technique that  can effectively remedy the shortage angiographies imaging technique. There are lots of techniques and algorithms proposed for reconstruction coronary arteries in angiograms. But based on our knowledge, there is not any review paper to categorize and compare them together. In this paper, we have divided these techniques  into two major basic categories and propose a survey for the geometric model. We studied all the papers in the geometric model and found there are two classifications: (1) based on methods, Which has  subdivided into (a) Epipolar Constraint Methods (ECM). (b) Deformable-Model-Based Methods (DMM). (2) Based on input data, which has also subdivided into (a) calibrated data. (b) un-calibrated data. Finally, we made three tables, the first table was  to compare all algorithms in each category against criteria such as: angiography types, number of image view, Use phantom data, shape coronary artery output, whole tree output  and software implementation. The second table was to  brief geometric model Methods description, advantages and disadvantages. And the last table was to brief description of angiography types, advantages and disadvantages.

UTILIZATION OF AUGMENTED REALITY FOR MEDICAL STUDENTS COLLABORATIVE LEARNING

ABSTRACT
The main aim of this project is to incorporate and utilize new technology “Augmented Reality” in order to develop an Interactive Augmented Reality application that can be implement in the universities and colleges with the aim of increase the level of understanding of the target student to particular area due to visualization from different point of view will offer the ability for students to observe real world objects through a hand held display or normal camera, and able to see virtual content superimposed over the real environment. Learning through direct experience is considered to be more effective than just passively receiving information. Augmented Reality is used to create interactive application with the dynamic contents combination with present visual and audio information to users. Augmented Reality is a low-cost technology that enables the merging of printed materials with dynamic computer graphics. In this paper we introduced a basic platform of collaborative learning using Augmented Reality approach which known as Magic Book that connected traditional books with virtual content in real time specially design for Medical students. The book stays like it is where showing text explaining about cardiology and 2 dimensional images as guideline. What really has shown the difference between a magic book and traditional book is that magic book can be extended by 3D-content. If one uses the Magic Book in combination with a standard-PC, and a webcam, virtual 3D-content appears on the marker over the pages of the book. This content can be turned intuitively and watched from all sides like a real object. Hence, we do not need to imagine. There are three sections for this magic book. Each section is attached with different objects. First section will be displaying the 3 dimensional heart models. The second section will be displaying the blood circulation animation and for the last section, a video showing a patient undergoes heart surgery will be displayed. Each section will have its own marker to be differentiated on which object to be loaded on which marker. This magic book fascinate medical practitioner (heart surgeon and cardiologist), once we showed them. This is our pilot study before we proceed to apply Augmented Reality on training future heart surgeon.

Abstract

Problem statement: Medical image analysis is a particularly difficult problem because the inherent characteristics of these images, including low contrast, speckle noise, signal dropouts and complex anatomical structures. An accurate analysis of wall motion in Two-dimensional echocardiography images is “important clinical diagnosis parameter for many cardiovascular diseases”. A challenge most researchers faced is how to speed up the clinical decisions and reduce human error of estimating accurately the true wall movements boundaries if can be done automatically will be a useful tool for assessing these diseases qualitatively and quantitatively. Approach: The proposed method involves three stages: First, the pre-processing stage for image contrast enhancement to reduce speckle-noise and to highlight certain features of interest (i.e., myocardial tissue). In the second stage, we applied the segmentation process using thresholding technique by considering a mean value of pixels intensity as a threshold value to distinct image features (e.g., Background and object). After thresholding implementation, the two most common mathematical morphology operators ‘erosion’ and ‘dilation’ are applied to improve the efficiency of the wall boundary detection process. Finally, Robert’s operator is used as edge detector to identify the wall boundaries. Results: For accuracy measurement, the experimental results of the proposed method are compared to that obtained from medical QLab system qualitatively and quantitatively. Conclusion: The results showed that our proposed method is reliable and its performance accuracy percentages are 50% more acceptable and 42% better than QLab system results.

Problem statement: Three-Dimension (3D) reconstruction is one of the vital and robust tools that provide aid in many fields, especially medicine. This article is about 3D shape similarity and it presents a comparison approach between principal curvature methods of 3D output. Our approach follows the concept of using the gray scale value as the z dimension and the other approach is a standard one. A comparison of the curvature of the 3D outputs will be made between the standard approach and our proposed one to prove its correctness. We propose to use the standard deviation technique to compare the output features of the 3D coronary artery trees. We applied a standard approach of 3D shape similarity and compared the features with ours. The standard approach was published in 1998 as a study comparing certain 3D curvature measurement algorithms. Approach: Our approach consists of three major steps: (1) Apply the paraboloid fitting technique from the standard approach; (2) Apply the 3D reconstruction algorithm proposed in this research on the same data in step (1) and (3) Apply the Standard Deviation technique on both outputs from (1) and (2) and compare the outputs. Results: Experimental evaluation has been done on clinical raw data sets where the experimental results revealed that both outputs are totally matched. Conclusion: The match in the output refers to the correctness of the proposed 3D output and subsequently its coronary artery tree curvature as well.

Poisson Surface.

Well done Hasan! He managed to deploy Michael Kazhdan et.al. work. He fit Poisson Surface onto his previous work which were processing, extruding, and COG computing of angiogram image. His next step will be scanning in u-v direction for sudden changes. It can be seen here grid points calculated from Poisson Surface and displayed using MeshLab.
